It's Moon & June's 13th birthday, and the family is celebrating.
Hatsuki: What's it feel like to be a teenager?
Summer: The big one-three! Can't call you "little girls" any more, you're officially "young women"!
Moon: Well, almost. It's not official until our Bat Mitzvah.
Summer: Bat Mitzvah?
June: Yeah, you know, the whole coming-of-age ceremony! When are we doing it?
Hatsuki: Well that's, uh, a Jewish tradition. We're not Jewish.
Moon: Okay, but every culture has some kind of coming-of-age ceremony.
June: QuinceaƱera, Ji Li, Sweet Sixteen -- there's over 20 distinct examples on Wikipedia alone!
Hatsuki (softly): I wish you'd put this level of research into your schoolwork...
Summer: But most of those celebrations happen when you're older. I mean, "Sweet Sixteen", it's right there in the name!
Moon: Well
that's bullshit! Both of us got our periods this year, and that's a
pretty shitty induction into womanhood. We demand something more
celebratory, more dignified!
June: Something that will extol the virtues of
womanhood in a time when being a woman is getting harder every day!
Show us what we have to look forward to!
Hatsuki: Well, uh, what did you have in mind?
The young women are being carried in a palanquin in a park by Skyy and Jake, June fanning herself, and Moon whipping Skyy. Hats & Sums stand by fanning with palm fronds.
Hatsuki: This one may have gotten away from us a bit.
Summer: I'm more wondering how long would be appropriate to wait before I throw one of these for myself!
